100Ah Low Draw Lithium Battery Discussion

An in-depth look at the Revolution Power 12V 100Ah Low Draw LiFePO4 battery — who it's for, what applications it suits, and how it compares to the High Draw variant.

Revolution Power 12V 100Ah Low Draw — Who Is It For?

The 12V 100Ah Low Draw is our most popular entry-level battery for caravans, camper trailers, and weekend 4WD builds. It's the right choice for the majority of recreational users who want the benefits of lithium without oversizing their system.

Low Draw vs High Draw — What's the Difference?

The distinction between Low Draw and High Draw refers to the battery's maximum continuous discharge current — the peak current it can sustain continuously without the BMS tripping.

| Variant | Max Continuous Discharge | Suitable For | |---|---|---| | 12V 100Ah Low Draw | 50A | Fridges, lights, pumps, standard loads | | 12V 100Ah High Draw | 200A | Trolling motors, winches, inverters, high-peak loads |

For most caravan and camping applications, a 50A continuous discharge is more than sufficient. A 60L compressor fridge draws around 4–6A average. LED lighting, pumps, and device charging rarely exceed 20–30A combined.

What the 12V 100Ah Low Draw Powers

Running these loads simultaneously, a fully charged 100Ah battery provides approximately:

  • 60L compressor fridge (4A average): 95Ah ÷ 4A = ~24 hours continuous
  • LED lighting (2A): 95Ah ÷ 2A = ~47 hours
  • Typical camping day (fridge + lights + devices): 1.5–2 days without solar

Add a 200W solar panel and the 100Ah is self-sufficient in most Australian camping conditions. The sun replenishes what you use during the day, and the battery runs the fridge overnight.

Physical Specifications

The 12V 100Ah Low Draw is dimensionally compatible with most Group 31 AGM battery boxes — the same footprint that many 4WDs and caravans are already wired for.

  • Dimensions: 330 × 172 × 215mm
  • Weight: 13.5kg (versus ~28kg for an equivalent AGM)
  • Terminal type: M8 bolt terminals

BMS Protection Features

Every Revolution Power battery includes an integrated Battery Management System (BMS) that provides:

  • Over-charge protection — prevents voltage exceeding 14.6V
  • Over-discharge protection — cutoff at 10.5V to protect cells
  • Over-temperature protection — shuts down in extreme heat or cold
  • Short circuit protection — instantaneous trip on dead short
  • Cell balancing — maintains cell equilibrium during charge

These protections are automatic and transparent in normal use — the battery simply works.

Pairing with Charging Equipment

For best results, pair the 12V 100Ah Low Draw with:

  • Victron SmartSolar MPPT 75/15 or 100/20 for solar
  • Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12/18A for alternator charging
  • Victron Blue Smart IP65 12V/15A for mains charging

All Victron controllers support LiFePO4 charge profiles in the VictronConnect app.

Is 100Ah Enough?

For a typical weekend camping trip (Friday night to Sunday afternoon) running a 60L fridge, LED lights, and device charging — yes, 100Ah with 200W solar is ample.

For longer trips, extended periods without sun, or higher loads, consider the 200Ah variant or run two 100Ah batteries in parallel.
